“After conquering all the Warring States to create the first unified Chinese empire, Qin Shi Huang became obsessed with the search for the elixir of life, but ultimately failed. After his death, his great empire collapsed almost immediately. Dragon’s Delusion is premised on a hypothesis: what if the emperor succeeded in unlocking the secret to immortality and created an absolute tyranny that lasts for an eternity? Cross-breeding cyberpunk and an idealized, fictional narrative, the work reimagines the starting point of Chinese imperial history, while embedding the story in a Hong Kong-inspired dystopic cityscape. It raises questions about memory and identity, as well as oppression, resistance, and the true meaning of freedom. The three shorts shown in this room are part of a feature-length animation film currently in production.”
