GUNS FIRED TO CELEBRATE BIRTH OF ROYAL BABY
Gun salutes were fired in London on Tuesday (23 JULY 2013) to celebrate the birth of the royal baby, the firstborn of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
The couple's Kensington Palace office said Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, had given birth to an 8 pound, 6 ounce (3.8 kilogram) baby boy at 4:24 pm on Monday.
A 41-gun salute in Green Park by the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery, was synchronised with a 62-gun salute from the Honorable Artillery Company, the City of London's army reserve regiment at the Tower of London.
Church bells at Westminster Abbey, where William and Kate married in April 2011, were expected to ring out for three hours.
The new family was expected to remain in the hospital until Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning.
The baby's name was still unknown.
