President Biden has said that the US is “discussing” potential Israeli airstrikes on Iran’s oil facilities in retaliation for the barrage of missiles fired at Israel this week.

“We’re discussing that. I think that would be a little … anyway,” Biden told reporters at the White House when asked if he supported a strike on Iranian oilfields. The comment prompted the price of oil to rise by about 4 per cent to $76.81 a barrel.
The Biden administration is in constant contact with Israel as it weighs its response to the Iranian missile attack. Biden said on Wednesday that he did not support an Israeli strike on Iran’s nuclear sites but said that new sanctions would be imposed on Tehran.
When he was asked if the US would “allow” Israel to retaliate against Iran, Biden responded: “First of all, we don’t ‘allow’ Israel, we advise Israel. And there is nothing going to happen today.”
