No internet required after you install the app. This tutorial is for Non-smart TVs only. You can do this for any device: DVD, BLU-RAY and so on.

You can't use iPhones as a remote for non-smart devices because they don't come with infrared IR Blaster. But you can use any iPhone as a remote with any Smart TV, just make sure your iPhone and TV are connected to the same Wi-Fi connection, same thing with an Android.

If you have a Smart TV or a smart device, you don't need an IR Blaster in your Android phone, just make sure your phone and TV are connected to the same Wi-Fi connection:
