This at first unassuming metal detecting find might turn out to be the greatest metal detecting find I’ve made in 25 years!

History and metal detecting are two of my biggest loves and to go out with a metal detector and discover ancient history is a buzz that can’t be replicated.

I use an XP DEUS 2 metal detector and hunt for coins, treasures and long lost relics in the ploughed fields of Perthshire in Scotland, and this might be one of the rarest treasures I’ve ever found in twenty five years of treasure hunting!

I’m taking it to the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh next week to have it looked at by Treasure Trove where I expect it will be claimed as treasure, and if it is confirmed as Pictish then it will be my first ever Pictish item in 25 years of searching, possibly dating back 1,300 years!
