Leading Lights by Les Atelier BK is a tribute to women who have made pioneering efforts. Twelve artists with different expertise have collaborated in this work to honor the female Nobel laureates of all time. The work draws inspiration from extensive scientific and historical research to recognize their significant contribution to humanity.
Since the Nobel Prize was established in 1901, the prize has been awarded to women 66 times. Among these outstanding laureates is the woman awarded two Nobel Prizes – Marie Skłodowska-Curie. In 1903 her pioneering work on X-rays was awarded the Physics Prize, and in 1911 she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for her discovery of radium and polonium.
In Leading Lights, Marie Skłodowska-Curie acts as a symbolic guide who takes the audience on a journey through the ground-breaking discoveries of female Nobel laureates. Projected on the facade of City Hall, the work highlights the breakthroughs, analyzes and testimonies of these remarkable women and shines a spotlight on their contributions to science and society.
