A juvenile bald eagle was released back into the wild on an open space property north of Longmont. This particular eagle overcame a lot of challenges. Her mother was electrocuted when she was several weeks old. Then when she fledged, she didn't do so well. She was eventually rescued and taken to Birds of Prey Foundation where they discovered what appeared to be a rattlesnake bite. After a little over a year of rehabilitation, she was finally released.
Ron Stewart, former director of Boulder County Parks & Open Space, had to honor of opening the door. This was one of his final achievements before he retired.
The eagle did need some coaxing to come out of her cage. But when she did, it was spectacular!
