DON'T FENCE ME IN
Tensions have reached a boiling point between the Hasidic Jewish community and town officials in Mahwah, NJ who want to take down the eruv. The mayor of Mahwah said the eruv is a sign that's in violation of the town's ordinances. The eruv is a series of white pipes on utility poles marking an area in which members of the Hasidic community are permitted to engage in activity usually prohibited on their Sabbath. Days after a heated town hall meeting about the matter, the eruv was vandalized over the weekend.
Yehudah Buchweitz, attorney for Rockland Eruv, and NJ 101.5 host Dennis Malloy weighed in on the matter.
