If the act of painting had a home, for British Columbia artist Cameron Bird, it would be the WILDERNESS.
As a former pack horse guide, Cameron discovered a plethora of various subject matter for his paintings: high alpine vistas, deteriorating homesteads, turbulent oceans and meandering rivers and surprising wildlife encounters are all laid down in paint. Indulging in the richness of WILDERNESS has given opportunity for this talented creator to expand his artistic vision.
Cameron Bird firmly believes it is essential to study all forms of art, from realism to abstraction. "Studying abstraction has given me the confidence to further simplification in my work. My personal experiences are what pull me back to some form of reality. I continue to study powerful shapes and layered colour creating an exciting textured painting with an abstract base," says Cameron.
Annually, Cameron gathers photographic and en plein air reference for his practice while fishing, camping and hiking in the mountains understanding that being outdoors provides authenticity to his work.
Canada House Gallery invites you to join Cameron Bird and explore WILDERNESS.
