Chaos broke in an alley in Taichung’s North District after a truck with flashing lights and deafening sirens disrupted the peace and quiet of a neighborhood. Loud announcements and warnings left some residents thinking there was a major incident involving the police. But it turned out, it was just workers resurfacing the road urging the locals to move their vehicles from the street. The workers’ method not only raised eyebrows, but have also earned them several fines from the city government. Let’s hear more.

There was no prior announcement, and they were just blasting the orders like that. Of course that’s disruptive.

The announcements were out of line. You’re just disturbing everyone all around. And calling people down like that is quite rude.

Taichung City Maintenance Office
They didn’t notify the police, and they were trying to find the owners of the vehicles, even using sirens to get people to move them. The Maintenance Office will impose a penalty on the team in accordance with the provisions of the contract.

Taichung Motor Vehicles Office
If the truck is registered as a vehicle for engineering projects, it is only allowed to carry yellow warning lights. And the broadcast system should not have been installed on the vehicle.
According to the relevant regulations, only specially designated vehicles are allowed to use warning lights and sirens. The truck captured on video was found not to have registered under that category, meaning its sirens and broadcast system were installed illegally. The operator is facing a fine of up to NT$1,800. In addition, if the illegal add-ons aren’t taken down within one month, the truck’s license plate will be suspended for one month. If no corrections are made within six months, the license plate will be revoked.
