In this video series, I take you through our entire queen rearing operation. I explain simple methods of making additions and move you on up into the lower levels of commercial queen rearing. There will also be some glimpses into the full blown world of commercial queen rearing. While it got a bit long, I was trying to not leave out any parts and to explain things fully so as to not effect ones success if they tried it as well.
Jason Foley and Shannon Bardole-Foley brought their individual companies together and formed the homestead business of Honey Hollow in the fall of 2016. On July 4th the couple was married, and by the fall of 2017 the couple had purchased 11 acres of timberland near the iconic Summerset Winery area. Construction on a log cabin home and store along with moving all bee breeding operations to the new site started immediately. By spring of 2019 they finished construction of their store and open up to the public. Jason takes care of most of the bee and carpentry related operations, while Shannon oversees customer relations, brooms, and soaps.
Jason is a certified master beekeeper through the University of Florida and a 4-time beekeeper of the year through the UF Master Beekeeper program. He is also the current President & Webmaster for the Iowa Honey Producers Association, an Iowa representative for the Great Plains Master Beekeepers, and is an active member of the Friendly Beekeepers of Iowa. Jason specializes in breeding Primorsky Russian Bees and ships his queens all over the United States. Besides being a huge beekeeping nerd, he’s pretty handy at carpentry, construction work, and an avid outdoorsman. Not to mention he can solve about any problem with duct tape.
