🍴 Be Prepared for Cold & Bad Weather 🍴
This is Part 2 of my multi-part series on emergency preparedness! Having the right tools and supplies for food and water can make a huge difference during power outages or emergencies. Here are my favorite tips, tools, and ideas to help you get ready:
Water Storage & Access
💧 5-Gallon Water Bottles & Rechargeable Pump:
• Keep a few 5-gallon water bottles on hand. Once empty, refill them at water refill stations for $0.25-$0.50 per gallon. Or fill with tap before emergencies strike.
• A rechargeable pump makes accessing the water easy!
• These are both great for emergencies and everyday use—perfect for washing dishes, hands, or even hair while camping or road-tripping. Bonus: They’re handy at the beach for rinsing off sand!
Cooking Tools
🔥 Coleman 2-Burner Gas Stove:
We love our Coleman 2-burner stove! It’s been a lifesaver during power outages, tailgating, picnicking, camping, and road trips.
• What it can do: It holds a 12-inch and 10-inch pan at the same time, so you can cook anything from breakfast tacos to chili, soups, ramen, stir fry, burgers, and more. It’s like having a portable kitchen!
• Gas usage: Each 1-pound gas canister provides at least 1 hour of cooking time. We stock up on 2-packs at Home Depot or Lowe’s when they’re on sale.
• Safety Reminder: Always use it in a well-ventilated area (outdoors is best).
• Look at local hardware stores for converters to use full sized propane bottles.
🔥 Chafing Fuel Heaters:
• These are great for quick food heating! A 12-pack of 6-hour chafing oil heaters costs under $20 at Sam’s Club.
• Safety Tip: Follow the instructions and dispose of them properly.
Food Stocking Tips
🥫 Canned & Dry Goods:
• Stock up on canned and dry foods you actually use. This ensures you can rotate your stock regularly.
• Essentials to keep on hand:
• Canned beans, meats, soups, and vegetables.
• Quick-cooking staples like parboiled rice and instant potatoes (these save time, water, and propane).
• Hearty veggies: Stock up on potatoes, onions, cabbage, carrots, and cauliflower. These keep well for long periods without refrigeration.
🌿 Salt-Preserved Herbs:
This recipe is a game-changer for emergencies! It keeps fresh herbs usable for months, so you can still enjoy flavorful meals when fresh produce isn’t available. Recipe: [ Ссылка ]
