Being mixed-race is often considered a privilege in China, yet Blackness can be stigmatised. Mixed-race Eurasian face filters and models are prolific on Chinese social media, but the same preference isn’t given to mixed-race Black and Chinese people, even though they are a growing demographic.
In fact, there is a small pocket of Chinese netizens with a strong nationalistic and anti-Black sentiment, which increased after changes were suggested to make it easier for foreigners to gain permanent residency in the country. VICE World News speaks to mixed-race Chinese people about their experience living in China.
