Presented here is the BBC's second television adaptation of the Robin Hood tradition, 1975's "The Legend of Robin Hood", starring Martin Potter as the prince of thieves. This series is a more grounded retelling of the Robin Hood legend, with political scheming, violent conflicts, and a more communal band of rebellious outlaws. Robin is a composite of the traditional yeoman and revisionist nobleman, being raised as a commoner but born the Earl of Huntingdon. Taking inspiration from the later 18th and 19th century literary material - such as the old crone prophesying Robin's demise - the series choses to present these typical aspects in a realistic (if unmistakably 1970s!) manner. Sporting six episodes, "The Legend of Robin Hood" is a little-known gem in Robin's televisual timeline, featuring one of the more poignant ends in modern Robin Hood media... Starring Diane Keen as Marian, "Blake's 7" alum Paul Darrow as the Sheriff of Nottingham, "Robin of Sherwood" regular John Albineri as Sir Kenneth, and David Dixon as Prince John.
