Wound paste is used by some in bonsai. They claim it has beneficial results. Others demur and claim it is a pointless additional expense.
If you want to try cutting paste but want to avoid the expense of buying it you can make your own. It is cheap and easy to do. That means you can experiment without risk.
Our recipe uses:
4 parts plain white flour
1 part salt.
4 Parts water
Combine these ingredients in a bag or bowl. Mix thoroughly. Wait a day and then add more oil if needed for desired consistency.
Keep this mix in a sealed air free or low air environment. This way it does not dry out and become unusable. Adding a little more oil or water will slow down the the process of drying and extend its shelf life.
Us eit as normal by filling the cut tree with the wound paste. You can adjust how it dries by adding oil and salt in different ratios. You can also adjust it for different species.
