Because the Z4 M40i Handschalter is the first of its generation to receive a three-pedal setup, meaning for the first time since its launch, the Porsche 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 has a serious driver-focused rival from BMW.

And we mean serious, because with 340hp from its B58 turbocharged straight-six engine, rear-wheel drive and a 50:50 weight distribution, this front-engined BMW promises to have a perfect blend of power and poise, to go with its extra pedal.

But the Boxster GTS 4.0 comes with its own special ingredients, including a naturally aspirated flat-six engine, mounted midship and powering through Porsche's own six-speed manual setup (unless you go for the two-pedal PDK).
