BEAUMONT - Investigators are searching for the mother of a four day old girl left in a shopping bag outside an apartment complex in cypress, near Houston. A woman was walking her dog last night when the dog picked up on a scent.The dog led the owner to a plastic bag along the fence-line,. The woman found a baby girl wrapped in a plastic Wal-Mart bag.Paramedics rushed to the scene and began caring for the girl. The umbilical cord was still attached.They clamped the cord, treated the child and drove her to a hospital.Shes in good condition.Neighbors expressed shock and disbelief anyone could leave a child alone in the cold in a bag.KFDM anchor Ashley Gaston has reaction from a Beaumont mother and from a police officer who talks about the Baby Moses Law which allows mothers to leave their infants at a safe haven.Baby Asher is 12 days old. He spends a lot of time cooing, eating and sleeping. They're adorable, absolutely adorable, its amazing to see what a miracle each little one is, said Brittney Burdick.Brittney Burdick enjoys her one on one time with him.They're just precious, all of them, so sweet and different, it just fun, tiring but fun, said Burdick.Burdick is the proud mother of four children, Asher is the youngest.Its busy really busy and tiring and a lot of fun a lot of fun, said Burdick.But no matter how hectic things can get, she says her children are precious.Personally I can't imagine leaving my kid. I look at this guy and say there's no way...no way, said Burdick.She was shocked to hear a woman found a baby girl wrapped in a plastic Wal-Mart bag in Houston.The baby is okay. Police are searching for her mother.Its an emotional thing and I can't imagine someone would do that to a helpless child...most precious and thing there is, said Sgt. Rob Flores.Beaumont police sergeant Rob Flores says there's an outlet for mothers feel they have no choice but to leave their baby at a safe haven.It's known as the Baby Moses law.Moses was given to someone and looks at the great thing baby Moses went on to become.The mother can legally hand over a baby 60 days old or less at any fire station, EMS station or hospital.A safe haven, something Brittney Burdick is overjoyed to offer each day at her home.
