Interesting trip today at the Port of Brisbane. It was an awesome trip but nothing was as planned.
We had set out on this trip hoping to vibe up a threadie but plans were changed. We had initially drifted along the shipping terminals just teabagging vibes along the bottom.
On passing a section of the drift I looked across and noticed how gloomy and dark it was under that certain section of the terminal. My curiously had gotten the better of me but in a good way. Passing a deep dark opening in under the terminal I grabbed the light rod rigged up with a 2.5in Holt Prawn and threw it in. To my amazement it was instantly picked up by a freight train. The fight was crazy as I was only using 12lb leader and 10lb mainline. Eventually I did wind the fight resulting in a 40cm+ snapper hitting the deck. Next frantic cast again resulted in an i stant hookup but rather than giving up this fish bricked me on the pylons.
I dropped the light rod and rigged up the medium gear. 20lb mainline, 20lb leader, 3” holt Prawn in bloodworm on a 3/0 1/4 ounce jighead. Everthing else after that was history…
We finished up with 2 undersized jewies which was released. 5 legal snappers, a spotty cod and some odd fish in between. This will probably be one of those unforgettable memories for me…..
