1. Trust your body: Imagine you’re dancing at the clurb, or at a wedding, or in your bedroom listening to music. Maybe it’s a simple two step with a fist bump, or maybe you’re shaking your hips like Sharkira. Either way, you KNOW how to move your body. It’s instinctual, engrained in your muscles. Well the same can be true with shuffling. All we are doing is building your dance vocabulary. The only way to do so is with repetition. But once you’ve got the muscle memory down, your body knows what to do I promise. So just trust it and let go and let the music guide you.
2. Don’t judge yourself: Every thought in the moment of dancing “oh god that wasn’t any good” or “ugh this feels weird/wrong” ?? Yeah don’t do that. Just let your dancing be what it’s meant to be: freedom of expression. And there’s no right or wrong way to express yourself. SO BE FREE.
3. Don’t overthink it: This isn’t a math problem to solve, this is ART. Get out of your head, and into the music.
4. There are no mistakes, only happy accidents: Bob Ross said it best. Some of my most creative moments have come from things that I honestly didn’t mean to do. That’s why you don’t stop when you make a mistake, instead you spin it into something NEW.
5.Come back to basics: This is home base. This is where you can stay forever if you choose or you can use it as a place to regroup. When in doubt - running man it out.
