STORYLINE:
British actor Joseph Fiennes of "Shakespeare in Love" fame helped Cuba's cigar-marketing firm launch a new size of cigar as the island began its eighth edition of an annual festival for stogie lovers around the world.
Fiennes attended the festival's opening of ballet and cocktails Monday night, presenting the new Short Churchills by Cuba's Romeo and Juliet brand.
"I've really gained a newfound respect for the kind of level of attention, detail, complexity and energy that goes into making a cigar, which I've never really thought of before," Fiennes told reporters.
On stage at Havana's Gran Teatro, the actor delivered lines from Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" and gave a presentation on the new cigar and its namesake, Winston Churchill.
Legend says the former British prime minister smoked more than 200,000 Cuban cigars during his numerous trips to the island.
