Today's episode from our Delhi Neighbourhood Eats series takes you on a culinary adventure through the lively streets of Connaught Place, Delhi. From a health-focused snack spot to two iconic Rajma Chawal joints, each stop offers something distinct and delicious. Additionally, we uncover a hidden gem for samosas and visit a renowned non-veg restaurant that guarantees a memorable experience.
We kicked off our food tour at Healthy Point, a humble setup run by two brothers that caters mostly to office workers seeking healthy meals. They serve poha and dalia in the mornings and transition to sweet corn in the evenings. Next, we enjoyed a refreshing chaas from Surajbhan Ji, who’s been selling this spiced buttermilk from his cycle for years. Sourced fresh daily from Haryana, Surajbhan adds his own mix of rock salt and spices, making it the perfect drink to aid digestion.
As we roamed the area, we stumbled upon a banner for “mast lassi” outside Ujala General Store and decided to try it. The shop itself was simple, but Bachaan Dev Ji, with his entertaining way of calling people over, made the lassi experience even more enjoyable. From there, we visited Lalchand Sweet Shop, a makeshift stall outside Barakhamba Metro Gate No. 6, where they serve rasgulla, gulab jamun, moong dal halwa, and rabri. The crowd gathered outside was a testament to their popularity, and though the rasgulla and rabri were fresh and rich, the sweetness was a little overwhelming for our taste.
Next, we indulged in two iconic Rajma Chawal spots: Parashar Food and Gupta Famous Food. While both served similar portions, Gupta’s was the clear winner with its bolder, more dynamic flavors. After this, we ventured to a secret samosa spot, a hidden treasure known only to a select group of loyal patrons. Though the owner requested we keep the location private, we couldn’t resist savoring the crisp samosas served with a chickpea curry and a unique paneer-based green chutney. The flavors were exceptional and truly lived up to the hype.
We then made our way to Peshawari Dhaba inside Palika Bazaar, a well-known haven for non-veg lovers. We sampled mutton korma and palak chicken, both of which were outstanding—rich yet simple, with layers of flavour that left a lasting impression. Our final stop was Odeon Bhel Puri, a beloved snack spot favored by office goers, traders, and visitors alike. A perfect choice for a light, tangy snack to wrap up our tour. We ended the day with sweet paan from Shukla Odeon Paan, a refreshing treat to conclude a satisfying culinary journey through the vibrant streets of Connaught Place.
