Yusto Katahoire was the first to test positive for COVID-19 at Kikuube Health Center IV in Kikuube District, western Uganda. As the center's chief hygienist, he's on the front lines in the fight against the spread of the novel coronavirus.
"I'm very proud of what I do. Very proud," he says. "I think I'm brave, because I'm at high risk of being infected." Follow Katahoire as he makes his rounds at the health center, sanitizing surfaces to make the facility safe for children and families seeking health services.
Thanks to UNICEF support, health facilities in Uganda have received sets of personal protective equipment (PPE) for use by all frontline workers. UNICEF has also provided health facilities with water, sanitation and hygiene supplies including chlorine, hand sanitizers, liquid soap, handwashing stations and cleaning equipment to enhance infection prevention and control during the pandemic.
