Ontario associate chief medical officer of health Dr. Barbara Yaffe and Ontario chief medical officer of health Dr. David Williams provided an update on the province's ongoing COVID-19 response on Saturday.
Ontario reported 375 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday morning, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 3,630. Twenty-seven new deaths were reported, raising the death toll to 94. These are the numbers as of 4 p.m. ET on April 3.
Williams said that the province has "bent the curve" of the COVID-19 outbreak to "some extent," but he'd like to see it bent even further. He also said that it's important to monitor cases in Ontario over the next week because many of the lab results from repatriated travellers from two weeks prior will be ready.
During the briefing Williams added that the government is "optimistic things will be carried out in a proper way" between Canada and the U.S. regarding U.S. President Donald Trump trying to prevent Minnesota-based company 3M from exporting its N95 respirators to Canada. Williams said he'd leave this up to the federal authorities.
