In this Italian lesson, I’ll show you some basic linking words, such as “and”, “or”, “because”, etc., and how to use them with real-life examples.

---------------------------- SUMMARY OF THE LESSON --------------------------
A conjunction is a word that connects two sentences and creates a logical relationship between the two. In Italian, you call them “CONGIUNZIONI”. The following are the most used both in written and spoken Italian:

To add Information: and (e), anche (also), inoltre (besides)
In negative sentences: né (nor), neanche/nemmeno (neither/not even)
To present options that are mutually exclusive: o/oppure (or), altrimenti (otherwise)
For contrasting ideas: ma (but), però (however)
To clarify or explain your ideas more in detail: infatti (indeed/as a matter of fact), cioè (that is/namely)
For creating a time relationship: quando (when), mentre (while), finchè (as long as/till)
To give explanations or telling the reason why you’re doing something: perché (because), siccome (since)
For introducing a thought or a statement: che (that)
To talk about exceptions or exclude something from your previous statement: tranne che + verb in the infinitive form (except)
To wrap up or get to a conclusion: dunque, quindi, allora (Therefore/so)
