Rudolf Albert von Kölliker (1817-1905) was a Swiss anatomist, physiologist, and histologist who made significant contributions to the fields of anatomy, embryology, and histology. He was one of the first to interpret tissue structure in terms of cellular elements.
He became a professor of physiology and comparative anatomy at the University of Zürich in 1844 and later transferred to the University of Würzburg in 1847. He is famous for his knowledge of histology, a branch of anatomy involving the study of the minute structure of plant and animal tissues. He received England’s highest honor, the Copley Medal, in 1897.
Rudolph Albert Von Kolliker (1817 - 1905) was able to produce a landmark textbook, Hanbuch der Gewebelehre des menschen (1852).
