In this video, I'll show you how to turn Accelerated GPU Scheduling on or off in Windows 11. This feature can help improve performance for gaming or other graphics-intensive tasks, and I'll guide you through the process of enabling or disabling it.
Windows 10 and Windows 11 come with a feature called Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling, designed to enhance gaming and video performance by offloading some tasks to the GPU. Enabling this feature can potentially give your PC a performance boost.
Typically, the Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) GPU scheduler manages multiple processes that send tasks to the GPU. While the GPU handles the actual rendering, the CPU is responsible for planning and dispatching these tasks. To improve efficiency, the CPU submits commands in batches, known as frame buffering, which enhances frame rates. However, this comes with the downside of increased input latency, meaning there’s a slight delay between pressing a button and seeing the effect on the screen.
The Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling feature shifts some of the CPU’s high-priority tasks to a dedicated GPU-based scheduler. This allows the GPU to handle more of the workload, theoretically reducing the CPU’s load and lowering input lag, resulting in a smoother experience.
Typically, your CPU offloads graphics-intensive tasks to the GPU, ensuring smooth performance in games, videos, and other multimedia applications. With hardware-accelerated scheduling, the GPU takes on even more responsibility, including scheduling tasks in batches, which reduces the CPU’s workload and improves system performance by lowering latency.
