From a Shaker manuscript in Maine to a capacity audience in Strasbourg, France: two wordless Shaker tunes, "Negro Songs," evoking the music of African-Americans as perceived by the 19th century brothers and sisters. The Boston Camerata, directed by Anne Azéma, is assisted by local choirs, Cadence Pole and the Chorale Universitaire. These pieces are also part of a recent CD release, "Free America," on the Harmonia Mundi label.
