On 28th February 2022, a social media video appears to confirm a Sukhoi 34 fighter bomber flying in Ukraine’s air space. It might be an indication that the Russian Air Force fixed wing aircraft fleet are now fully engaged in the battle.
This is clearly an escalation of the conflict, Russia might have decided to send in the power Air Force fighters and bombers to destroy Ukraine’s military force.
The Sukhoi 34 is the most advanced Russian fighter bomber. It is a significantly redesigned Sukhoi 27 fighter variant, capable of delivering more guided weapons to targets.
The bomber has an enlarged fuselage, a V004 passive electronically scanned array radar, side-by-side seating cockpit of its two-person crew, twin tandem main undercarriage, and a longer tail component, which houses an N012 rearward-facing warning radar.
It retains air combat capacity. For attacking ground targets, it can carry multiple air-to-surface missile, or laser guided bombs.
In September 2015, six Sukhoi 34 bombers arrived in Syria, for attacks against enemy forces in the country.
Another video surfaced online might indicate the Russian Air Force are sending in Mi-28N attack helicopter, also an escalation of force used by Russia in Ukraine.
The video shows Mi-28N flying over possibly a Ukraine town. Russians have been using older helicopters to attack targets in Ukraine, but Mi-28N has not had much exposure. Early on a Kamov 52 attack helicopter was shot down in Ukraine.
And the video also shows a Mi-24 attack helicopter flying over the area. Again it appears the Russian commanders decide to deploy much more powerful weapons and combat units in enemy territory. The war is unfortunately turning a lot more brutal than the first few days.
