Have you considered E-bikes? Ryan was skeptical at first and thought it would be hard to get your heart rate up on a pedal assist bike. He was wrong and loves his bike! We have been using these bikes almost daily and it has really changed our options for getting around. If you are thinking about getting one, we highly recommend Magnum.
