Series leader Curt Whittaker suffered championship drama at Round 5 of the Cody's D1NZ National Drifting Championship held in Whangarei, the 2JZ powered Team Dilusi R34 Skyline suffered an engine failure during practice leaving Curt without a car before Qualifying.
Cam Vernon volunteered his Pro-Am R32 Skyline for Curt to use in the hopes of salvaging as many points as possible before the Grand Final.
Curt now sits second in points behind Mad Mike Whiddett into the final round, more than 5 drivers have a mathematical chance of winning the the 2012 title, including current 3x defending champion Gaz Whiter who sits in 3rd while his team mate 06' champion Fanga Dan Woolhouse is now in 4th.
Darren Benjamin sits in 5th on his debut pro-season ahead of Cole Armstrong who now finds himself in 6th after 2 gearbox failures at Round 5 and a Top16 loss to Benjamin - The race for the championship has taken a dramatic turn at the penultimate round and has setup an enthralling showdown for the final at Hampton Downs this April!
