Since 1952 every year (with a few years break) a Carnival called
"Storm the Town Hall" is celebrated in the city of Würzburg.
The farmers from surrounding Würzburg (from Eibelstadt and Randersacker) storm the town hall.
The foolish and quite funny big event in fact has a serious background. Jacob Koehl, a winemaker and restaurateur from Eibelstadt was one of the ringleaders of the revolt against the unjust demands by the authorities of Würzburg in the Peasants' War of 1525. He was taken back then betrayed and captured by soldiers of the Prince Bishop . He eventually ended up in the dungeon of Grafeneckart (City Hall or Rathaus) and was later even beheaded.
The battle between the city soldiers and the farmers is as expected.
In modern times, of course, the battle ends in a draw ! Ultimately, the fun ended again in a convivial drink and conviviality of peasants.
