Test fire of my Rare Arms Shell Ejecting Airsoft AR-15.
I modified a real Lancer L5 AWM magazine and the Airsoft Replica to feed real 5.56 casings.
The Magazine spring was swapped to the one that was in the Rare Arms magazine. The weaker spring helps feed it and put less wear on the bolt.
The Rifle was modified by filing the feed ramp since the Rare Arms magazine has a built in ramp to feed shells.
More work needs to be done since it's not 100% reliable but I was able to go through this whole magazine without issue.
The casings are regular empty 5.56 with the primer pocket drilled out with a 4mm drill bit. While it can cycle without that modification, the bolt cycles noticeably slower.
I would have needed to drill it out anyways since the goal was to convert 5.56 shells to hold BB's. This is because the Rare Arms shells are expensive, low stock, and don't last long.
For comparison, plastic Rare Arms shells are $14.5 for 30. (.483/shell) Metal aluminum shells are $42.99 for 15. (2.866/shell) Not to mention shipping costs from Asia.
The place I got the 5.56 casings were $39 for 100 (.39/shell), to $249 for 1000. (.249/shell)
I hope to hold multiple BB's per shell so it behaves like a shotgun. May need to increase the air through the bolt.
