Instructor Nicole Martin previews her course on Vicarious Trauma and Mindful Self-Care.

This longer preview introduces presenter Nicole Martin and the importance of understanding vicarious trauma with relation to the workplace. She expands upon the definition of vicarious trauma and its real impact for those who work consistently with those affected trauma. She identifies how self-care works for you rather than against you and the connection between mindfulness and self-care practices. She also begins to expand upon strong self-care practices as a process to help rejuvenate and re-energize those who are affected by vicarious trauma.
The full version of the course provides a comprehensive overview of vicarious and secondary trauma while identifying tools to reduce burnout. Participants will have the opportunity to identify potential sources of vicarious trauma, assess stress-related symptoms, and build comprehensive self-care plans. Tools for managing vicarious trauma will also be practiced in the course, providing audience members with accessible and individualized solutions to support a holistic work/life balance. Each participant will gain a customized plan that will support their unique needs and wellness goals.
