Filmed old windmills in 6 different places on the island of Öland, Sweden.

It is recommended, if you are visiting Öland, Sweden in summer, to check the following windmills out.

1. Scrubbing, older plant for scrubbing, ie making the surface smooth on limestone chips that are to be used as building stone. From at least the Middle Ages until the 19th century, scurrying was used on Öland, where this was a significant activity. One such consisted of a laid ring of the limestone chips that one wanted to process. In the center of the ring was an oak pole that formed the attachment point for a drawbar. Under the drawbar, at the height of the stone ring, a runner was attached. The boom was pulled around by draft animals. Sand and water were used as abrasives. A week's work could result in 100 ground stones, which could be shipped out for use as, for example, flooring in a finer building somewhere around the Baltic Sea.

In the 1860s, wind-powered scrubbers began to be used on Öland. With a good wind, a ring could be scrubbed in a single day. The inventor of these works is a skipper and boat builder from Källa parish, Olov Peter Nilsson (1825–1895). These scrubbers, which were usually run by small farmers, were used until the 1930s, when they began to grind the stone mechanically. A single wind-driven scrubber is preserved, namely the one in Jordhamn, Persnäs parish. It was built in 1905 and has been owned by Åkerbo hembygdskrets since 1947.

2.Störlinge is a small town in Borgholm municipality in Gärdslösa parish on Öland. It is known for its long line of seven windmills. On the village's land is also, despite the name, the large Bronze Age tomb Tjus high. Störlinge is also home to the Störlinge Agricultural & Motor Museum.


3. Lerkaka is a village in Runsten parish on eastern Öland in Borgholm municipality. From 2015, Statistics Sweden delimits a small town here.
The name possibly refers to the muddy earth's tendency to "cake up" and was written as early as 1467 "Leerkaka". Today, the village is known for its long line of windmills, which is a tourist destination.


4. Mysinge is a town in Mörbylånga municipality in Kalmar County, located in Resmo parish on southwestern Öland just east of the central town of Mörbylånga, south of Resmo church and north of Bårby castle.

Statistics Sweden previously delimited the buildings in Mysinge together with the neighboring town of Bengtstorp to a small town named Mysinge and Bengtstorp.]

From Mysinge Hög you have a magnificent view of Stora alvaret in the east and Mörbylångadalen and Kalmarsund in the west. On the country castle by the burial ground, a species-rich dryback flora grows and in the damp hills you can find the protected butter ball.


5. Sandvik is a small town in Borgholm's municipality located on Öland's west coast in Persnäs parish by Kalmarsund.

The port has been used for shipping limestone processed in the area. Sandvik's mill is the largest windmill around the Baltic Sea, and is a so-called "Dutchman" with a swivel top. Sandvik has several restaurants and a well-visited beach next to the harbor. Southeast of the settlement is a runway for private flights. South of Sandvik is the bird protection area Knisa bog. Along the beach road down to Lofta there are several grave remains.


6. The stone mill at Högby is close to Löttorp.
The Högby stone mill is also called ''Kopparslagarkvarnen'' and was built in the middle of the 19th century.
