In this episode we’re exploring Paracas in Peru. Using the town as a base, we hop on a boat to visit the Ballestas Islands & it’s millions of birds. Then hire some bikes & undertake a sweltering 46km cycle around the rugged Paracas Peninsula of Paracas National Reserve.
The highlight of our adventures in this part of Ica, Peru was without a doubt all the wildlife we encountered. Sea lions, pelicans, Peruvian boobies, there’s just so much diversity. It’s easy to see why the Islas Ballestas are also referred to as 'The Poor Man's Galapagos Islands'.
On the Paracas boat tour we also stop by the Paracas Candelabra. The giant prehistoric geoglyph carved into the hillside of the Peninsula is so huge it can be seen as far as from 12 miles out at sea. Seriously impressive.
We of course sample a few Pisco sours in the lively bars in Paracas, find some tasty places to eat & even cram in a little beach time at bothPlaya La Mina & Playa Chaco.
If you’re planning for a trip, be sure to pop at least a full day in Paracas on your Peru itinerary.
