Exodus International was the world's largest "ex-gay" ministry from 1976 until 2013. It shut down after its leaders acknowledged that its gay clients were not changing into heterosexuals. Michael Bussee is the co-founder of Exodus and left the organization in 1979 after falling in love with ministry co-director Gary Cooper. Bussee and Cooper left their wives for each other and held a commitment ceremony.
Bussee now warns people to avoid these toxic, fraudulent groups. Today, he is a founder of the Former Ex-Gay Leaders Alliance (FELA). FELA seeks to end "ex-gay" programs.
