Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is a highly infectious viral infection of cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, buffalo, and artiodactyl wildlife species. It is characterized by fever; vesicles in the mouth and on the muzzle, teats, and feet; and death in young animals.
