At least one person was killed, and more than 600 others were left homeless after fires in Russia’s Sverdlovsk region.
The blazes on Tuesday and Wednesday affected six settlements in the region and spread to an area of more than 9,000 square meters. More than 110 properties were affected by fires in the village of Sosva.
Two-hundred people were evacuated from a nearby penal colony that also caught fire.
Officials were investigating whether an initial fire had broken out at a sawmill. (AP)
