On 9 September 1974, Prince Charles, Prince of Wales stepped out onto the tarmac at Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS) Yeovilton in Somerset. Lieutenant the Prince of Wales, as was his military title, was to take part in his first dual control flight of a helicopter. The course would, upon completion, see the future King qualified to fly helicopters like his father, Prince Philip. His sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, would follow in his footsteps.
