But why is that? Lore-wise, The Destined One is a descendant of Sun Wukong, but in the beginning did not have most of Sun Wukong’s abilities, he only starts learning them as the game progresses. This explains the stature difference as Sun Wukong had the power to change his size or height at will, which could account for why he was taller than his monkey descendants—an ability The Destined One did not acquire throughout the game."
From a design perspective, making the main character smaller than bosses serves multiple purposes. Larger bosses have bigger hitboxes, making it easier for players to land attacks. A smaller protagonist also improves camera control during intense battles, and the towering presence of bosses enhances the sense of danger, making victories feel more rewarding.
