Bibek Debroy, noted economist and chairman of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's economic advisory council, died at the age of 69 on November 1. Debroy, widely recognised for his contribution to the Indian economy, has played a primary role in shaping Indian economic policies. Expressing grief over Debroy's death, PM Modi on his official X handle said, “Bibek Debroy Ji was a towering scholar, well-versed in diverse domains like economics, history, culture, politics, spirituality and more. Through his works, he left an indelible mark on India’s intellectual landscape. Beyond his contributions to public policy, he enjoyed working on our ancient texts, making them accessible to the youth.” The 69-year-old had recently been discharged after being hospitalised for several days. He passed away at AIIMS, Delhi on Friday morning. “Bibek Debroy passed away today 7 AM due to intestinal obstruction,” AIIMS Delhi said.
