This AskProfWolff is in response to 2 questions from our Patrons. "Dr. Wolf, would you talk about the effect of speculation on the market regarding housing in particular and also the effect on rising rent. I was prompted to ask this when I saw a report on the housing crisis in Oakland." The second question Prof. Wolff addresses: "Nick from New Zealand here. New Patron. I occasionally lock-horns with property developers, who are building houses specifically for "investors" to rent out. They say they're doing the country a favour by building more, so driving the prices down... and while this doesn't feel right to me, I'm at a loss to explain why. I would really appreciate having some insight into what speculators building specifically for landlords are doing to/for the economy."
