The two Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) factions held big meetings on Wednesday in a bid to stake claim over the majority of 53 party MLAs. But Ajit Pawar, who led the rebellion against party founder Sharad Pawar, flaunted 31 MLAs in a show of strength, while only 13 were present at the conclave addressed by Sharad Pawar. Meanwhile, Sharad Pawar on Thursday chaired a key meeting at his Delhi residence. However, Ajit Pawar called the meeting "illegal" and said no one held the authority to call for such meetings. Later, the NCP expelled Ajit Pawar, Praful Patel and nine MLAs who had joined hands with the NDA.
