Let’s talk about the new iPhone XR - the clear iPhone OF THE YEAR!

It is $250 cheaper than the small S model and a whopping $350 less expensive than the starting price of the Max model, and you might think it has $350 worth of compromises...right? Wrong, but let's start with all the negatives first.

Now the screen is where things start to go on the cheaper side. This time around Apple is using a display called Liquid Retina. It’s an LCD panel, and it’s more than obvious that is missing some 1,256,724 pixels compared to the S model or even the older iPhone X.

But, and there’s a huge BUT

when you wake up in the morning, I guarantee you that won’t be asking yourself “I wish I had a better OLED display with more pixels.”

It’s an excellent panel, and I can vouch for that because I switched from the iPhone X and had absolutely no regrets.

Another noted saving in the XR is the lack of a second lens on the back...the telephoto lens to be more specific. The primary shooter is the same technology that you get in the $1100 iPhone XS Max model, and yes, it has the awesome portrait mode and all the other bells and whistles like post blur edit and so forth.

Now coming from the X, I can say that the camera improvement is significant. I was a bit skeptical at first but when I started comparing the shots, especially in low light, but I was pretty impressed. The colour science does look different this time around, and photos appear a bit colder, but the results speak for itself.

The last compromise that makes the XR your most sensible Apple phone choice is the memory. With the XR you get 3GB instead four like in the S models...but I am sure Apple did this to shave off some weight (just kidding).

Will you notice the less RAM? I bet my house you won’t...ever... in the entire lifespan of this device...unless Apple rolls out an update and takes away Gig for battery preservation.

All jokes aside, with its A12 Bionic chip, which is the same as in the S models this phone crushes pretty much everything else on the market. Except for its more expensive brothers. So rest assured, you won’t notice any performance hiccups.

The 4th thing missing is 3D Touch - it’s non existent because of the screen technology, but Apple has simulated it quite nicely by a holding gesture, in combination with Taptic feedback.
