Investigators are uncovering what may have inspired belief in this extraordinary beast. Palaeontologists dig up the bones of large prehistoric animals – did some of these skeletons look like the remains of enormous humans to our ancestors? Why did the Greeks believe that the Cyclopes built citadels and forged powerful weapons for the gods? How large did the Greeks think this giant actually was and why was the dreaded Cyclops always a loser?
