Sugarcane is not a fruit, it’s a grass. But it is consumed like a fruit and hence the comparison with fruit/fruit juice.
Sugarcane has been used as an energy drink for athletes- but note- it is used for athletes (whose workouts/calorie expenditure is way higher than non-athletes) and also it has been used as a substitute for energy drink which by themselves are high on glucose.
Calories absorbed faster lead to a quicker rise in glucose and hence insulin levels- which in turn can be harmful for your health even if you don’t have diabetes.
Buttermilk, nimbu paani, coconut water or unsweetened beverages are far superior hydration drinks than sugarcane juice.
