So basically simply put what separates analog from digital is a circuit board. Digital pedals or effects basically have their components hard-wired to a circuit board and that's a very different sound than analog pedals. To me, analog pedals or effects are really trying to emulate vintage gear, effects that were built into amps at that time. Effects that occurred naturally through the manipulation of the guitar and the amp or pedals, that are 40-years-old at this point, before circuit boards.
To me, they sound more natural. They sound more organic. They sound better. But not always; digital effects today are getting better. They're getting closer to sounding more realistic and also, depending on the situation that you're in, whether it's a live gig or a recording session or you're recording at home direct, and you're going straight into a computer, everything serves a purpose. So therefore, it's not that one is better than the other, it just is that I prefer on live gigs, certain things over others.
