Model railways and organists often seem to belong together. The composer of today's music was one such who built a model railway on which the choirboys of Salisbury Cathedral would have rides. I refer, of course, to Walter Galpin Alcock, 1861-1947, who, as well as being organist of Salisbury Cathedral from 1916 where he remained for the rest of his life, also played for the coronations of three monarchs and was Professor of Organ at The Royal College of Music where several of his pupils went on to become well known and respected organists . His tutor 'The Organ' is still highly regarded and from that publication I'm playing Impromptu , one of the collection of pieces he wrote with which to conclude and summarize, as it were, the various aspects of organ technique covered in the book. I'm playing it on Friesach, Austria sample set.
