Raymond Frey, head of the University of Oregon Department of Physics, discusses the Feb. 11, 2016, announcement that LIGO scientists have confirmed the first-ever capture of a gravitational wave that had been theorized 100 years ago in Albert Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity. Frey leads the UO team at LIGO, which played a major role in recent upgrades that made the detection possible.
