STORYLINE
On the outskirts of the Pakistani capital, many Afghan children are learning about a homeland few of them have seen.
They're the children of Afghan refugees and spend most of their days studying four subjects, English, Urdu, their native Pashtu, Osama bin Laden.

More than 10-thousand Afghan refugees live in this slum about 150 miles from their homeland.
Hidden inside, the labyrinth of its narrow alleys, is the Afghan Public School.

Here, more than 30 boys squat on mats on the dirt floor for classes.

A mere handlful of girls sit at the back of the class, separated from the boys.

Most of the children, aged between four and eight, have never known any home other than a refugee settlement.
The school, which has been running for a year, offers a limited curriculum.

The emphasis is on learning through repetition and recitation.

And although they're still very young, most appear to have an adult understanding of the seriousness of the situation facing Afghanistan.
